What is the thyroid?

The thyroid gland is a butterfly-shaped organ just below the cartilage called Adam's apple in the anterior part of the neck. It weighs about 20 grams. It releases hormones that are vital to our bodies.

The thyroid gland secretes hormones T3-T4. These hormones enter the bloodstream and regulate our metabolism and control its speed. Goiter is formed as a result of the enlargement of the thyroid gland due to various reasons. Usually, these growths occur in the form of nodules developing in the thyroid gland. They can be single or multiple. They can be in the form of cysts with fluid. In diffuse goiter, the thyroid gland has generally grown. Although very common, they are largely benign. Nodules can be in millimeter sizes or they can reach large sizes that cover the entire neck. Thyroid nodules must be examined.
What are the symptoms?
They are largely unspecified. However, it can be considered as a growing mass in the front part of the neck. As the size increases, they may cause shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing, hoarseness. Hyperactive nodules that secrete too much thyroid hormone into the blood, increase in heart rate, irritability, weight loss, hand tremors and sweating,
insomnia is manifested by diarrhea. The signs of hypothyroidism are slowing heart rate, weight gain, constipation, depression, fatigue in the body, hair loss and shedding, dry skin, forgetfulness, and menstrual irregularities.
What is Hyperthyroidism?
The condition in which the thyroid gland releases more than necessary hormones is called hyperthyroidism (poisonous goiter). Toxic goiter can be with or without nodules. Non-nodular toxic goiter is also called Basedow Graves Disease.

Signs and symptoms of thyroid cancer

Thyroid cancer can cause any of the following signs or symptoms:

A lump or mass in the neck that sometimes grows rapidly.
Swelling in the neck
Pain in the front part of the neck that sometimes reaches the ears
Hoarseness or other voice changes that persist
Swallowing problems (swallowing food)
Difficulty breathing
A constant cough that is not due to a cold
If you have any of these signs or symptoms, consult your doctor immediately. Many of these symptoms can also be caused by non-cancerous conditions or even other cancers in the neck area. Thyroid nodules are common and generally benign (not cancer). However, if you experience any of these symptoms, it is important that you consult your doctor so that the cause can be determined and treatment if necessary.
